Peonies in the Mist

Original Pink Peony Painting hanging in an modern living room

There are seasons in life when everything feels uncertain. The path ahead isn't clear, and the world seems covered in a veil, much like a garden waiting for the morning sun.

That is where "Peonies in the Mist" was born.

Over the last few years, life has asked more of me than I ever expected. There has been loss, change, worry, and moments when I wondered if I would ever feel inspired again. For a while, I found myself searching for beauty instead of simply seeing it.

When I began this painting, I didn't want to create perfect flowers. I wanted to paint hope.

The peonies slowly emerged from layers of soft whites, faded blush, and gentle grays, just as hope often appears quietly rather than all at once. Every brushstroke became a reminder that even when life feels clouded, beauty is still there, waiting to reveal itself.

I left space for the mist because that's how life often feels. We rarely see the whole journey. We only see the next step, the next bloom, the next glimpse of light. Yet somehow, that is enough.

This painting became a place of peace for me. It reminded me to slow down, to trust the process, and to believe that gentle things can still be powerful. The soft petals, the muted palette, and the quiet movement all carry emotions that are difficult to put into words—grace, resilience, healing, and the promise of new beginnings.

More than anything, "Peonies in the Mist" is about finding beauty in the in-between moments. It is a reflection of where I have been and a quiet reminder of where I am going.

My hope is that when you look at it, you don't just see flowers. I hope you feel a sense of calm, a deep breath, and the comforting thought that even in the mist, something beautiful is unfolding.

With love,

Debi Coules
