Lavender, with its stalks of pale purple flowers, has many different connotations. When someone says “Lavender”, they may be referring to the flower, the color, or even the fragrance. In some culture, Lavender has become synonymous with tranquility and relaxation. But in France, East of Avignon, lies the Provence lavender fields of France. In July, seemingly endless rows of lavender go into bloom, covering the French countryside in a blanket of gentle purple. It is this provincial meaning that inspires me to incorporate lavender into to my French country inspired and shabby chic artwork.
